Scan a Document to Edit in Google Docs

Do you need to edit a paper but only have the physical paper copy?  These steps below will help you scan in a document and use Google Docs to turn it back into an electronic document.  You will lose your layout and formatting but most of the text will be recognized correctly.
  1. Scan your paper
    1. Go to the library copier and login
    2. Put your paper in the feeder tray or on the glass
    3. Choose the Scan to Email button
    4. Put in your school email address
      1.  Use this button found on the far right side of the screen to enable the option Scan E-mail to me, this will enter in your school address automatically
    5. Press the Start button
    6. When finished, log out
  2. Save the file to Google Drive
    1. Open your email account through a web browser on a computer
    2. Find the email with the attachment
    3. Move the mouse over the picture of the attachment and click on the Save to Drive button 
    4. Click Move
    5. Your file is now saved into your MyDrive folder
  3. Open your file with Google Docs
    1. Go to your Google Drive
    2. Right click on the file you just scanned
    3. Choose Open with > Google Docs
    4. After some processing it will open with an image of each page followed by the text it could recognize

  4. ​Copy the text into Word or whatever program you want to use to resume editing your document
